The Practice of Gratitude

Here in the United States it is common that during the holiday season (October-December) many Americans are more aware of the things they are grateful for. As a result, the season is typically defined by actions such as joy and gratitude! It is said that the practice of gratitude can have amazing effects in your life. From boosting moral and improving relationships and mental health, there are a number of reasons one should consider being more grateful. Here are a few ways to incorporate gratitude into your daily life:

Keep a Journal

Daily writing can increase personal awareness and mindfulness. If you have never kept a journal it also helps with discipline and memory. Imagine looking back at a journal entry from 5 years ago and reflecting on the ways your life has changed, learning and growing from past situations while remembering the people who influenced you along the way. You can easily order a journal from Amazon or try using an old spiral notebook. Some people prefer to keep an online journal- the website Penzu is perfect if that sounds like you!

Share Gratitude

Sharing gratitude with the people you are grateful for can improve relationships. It’s never too late to share how much you appreciate a friend or loved one. It may not be culturally normal for each person to share emotions of gratitude, but it doesn’t mean that should stop you! So next time someone does something helpful or kind, simply express how much you appreciate them.

Take Time to Notice

Take time to focus specifically on gratitude. Here is an interesting 5-minute clip that will lead you through a moment of silence and help tune you into the practice of gratitude through engaging your senses. Many people simply go through the day to survive rather than thrive! Be a person who is aware of their surroundings and make time to enjoy the journey!

We hope this short article was helpful and thought provoking! There are countless ways to practice gratitude, but the important part is that you find a way that works for you. Make one application and try to do it this month!
